What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Washington

I have been having attendance issues at a morning job, having accidentally missed one day, and coming in late on several others. Although I would understand why my job would want to give me less hours or even fire me, I've only been told that I'm not scheduled. I haven't managed to make contact with my manager yet.

My question is, is it legal for a manager to fire someone without telling them they were fired? If I knew I was fired, I could at least start looking for another job, but I'm unsure whether I am or not, and as it is, I've been and will be unscheduled for 18 days in a row.

Yes. It is "legal". Next job...Show up and be on time.

Oddly enough, yes it is. I find it as strange as you do, but there isn't any law that requires an employer to actually tell an employee they are fired. There are a very few states where an employee whose employment has terminated must be given information about applying for unemployment, but your state is not one of the few.

What you can do now is apply for unemployment and start looking for another job anyway. There's no requirement that anyone tell you that you're fired before you can apply for UI; if you're not working and not being paid that will be enough. If you are fired you need to do that sooner rather than later, and if you're not fired the notice of your application may light a fire under your employer.

It's poor form but yes, they can. Now, in 18 days, could you not have gone o site and spoken to your manager or higher?
