forced resignation for new illness w/in 3 month period

I was recently diagnosed w/fibromyalgia & have had boughts of severe pain & even escorted from my desk to the E.R. on one occasion.
I was forced to resign due to the amount of abscences even though I had obtained a letter from my Dr. about the illness & had kept my manager in constant contact about it. please help, can I do anything about this
