What is the name of your state? Illinois

Hi,

Assuming a company holds a patent in another Country for a product. I was once told that if I purchase the ingredients to make the product from that company, I still however may not patent the product here in the U.S because I'm not the inventor. That is assuming that this company does not hold a foreign patent, but does however have printed publications on that product.

I was informed that even though there might be foreign information on this product, it may make it unable to be patented.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

If something is already "known," it can't be invented. So if there is an "enabling disclosure" published anywhere in the world, it can make a patent impossible in the U.S. But whether or not it actually does depends on the exact facts of your particular situation.
