What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Arizona.
Long story short I found out I was fired over a text message that was sent to a coworker from my supervisor. I had to go into work and talk to the director so I can hear it myself if I really was. Then I talked to HR about it but all my understandings they said they would "talk to him about it." I was embarrassed that I found out from someone else. My supervisor never called or sent a text to apologize or say I was fired. I was in medical school for a while and they really stressed out that exploiting ANY personal information to someone even it it's family is illegal. Does this lay on the same track? Would I get anything from it if I talk to someone higher in the company?

Nothing illegal occurred.

HIPAA does not apply to your firing.

You can be fired without any apologies.

What did the text message say? Seems to be a pretty major piece of information to just be left out...

And also, if your supervisor never told you that you were fired, how did you find out?

The boss texted the coworker (well, former coworker) telling the coworker that the OP had been fired. It was a little confusing to me too...

Let's put it this way.

On the basis of what you have posted, your termination might have been handled badly but nothing illegal occurred. Whether talking to someone higher up in the company depends on whether the company is interested in working things out with you or not. It might, it might not, but if it does, it's because they chose to let you come back and if it doesn't, there are no legal resources you can take to force them to.

If you think additional information might change the answer, you'll need to provide additional details. If you'd rather not post it publicly, I work in HR and I accept PM's.

Well OP did say she was fired "over" a text message (in other words, because of a text message). If she'd said "via" a text message it might have been clearer.

I got fired over the phone from the company where I had worked for 23 years. Tacky, but not illegal.
