I'm in Texas.

I started with my current firm on 1/1/04 and Jim started on 6/1/03. He and I are both sales reps in the same geography, working separately. In my field you struggle at first until you can establish yourself within 3-5 accounts, and I was fortunate in that within the first few months on the job I had established two very large accounts. (The job is mostly commissions). I had orders in the queue which would have paid me about $200k ytd through August of this year. Jim was struggling and making almost nothing. He proceeded to write two anonymous leters to each of my two accounts which were derogatory toward me, our company, and threatened them with public exposure if they proceeded to do business with me, a known corrupt businessman. The letter were lengthy and extremely prejudicial. By the way I have a positive history in the inudustry in our area and not the slightest hint of corruption. Frankly, Jim is just nuts. He was jealous and knew he was on the verge of getting fired so he got vindictive.

As a result of the letters, Account #1 said obviously an unbalanced person wrote them and they discarded them and paid no mind, and assumed they came from a competitive company. But Account #2 was very nervous about any sort of potential exposure since they are a public not-for-profit entity and they decided to back away from the large order they had with me and do business with one of my competitors, and now it looks like they are not going to do business with me again. They told me, my company's owner, and an executive from another company that they backed out of the order because of these derogatory and threatening letters.

These letters have my suppliers nervous and I've pretty much lost account #2 but account #1 seems to be okay. I have no idea what I should do. My own company has not said what they are going to do, if anything. Everyone believes that Jim wrote the letters and while there is strong tangible evidence that someone within our company wrote the letters, there is only cirumstantial evidence against Jim in particular. I am looking for any advice of any sort. Thanks a lot.
