What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Michigan

My mother just died. On my mother's checking account, it included both my mother, myself and my son. I have to pay bills out of the accounts for my mom (I am/was POA.)

Will they freeze those accounts until probate? I have to pay the caregivers that took care of my mom until yesterday. I have the $3000 property tax bill; the $900 insurance bill, etc.

I'm not worried about the stocks - those can go to probate. I just don't want the cash tied up until I can get the bills paid. I also still will have the ongoing things in the house, like electricity, gas, water, etc.

anyone know? I'm afraid to call the bank so that they freeze it before I get there.

I also have to pay for her cremation today.
