What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? IN

Would the courts appoint or agree to have a GAL for a 16 yr old?

NCP is filing for change in custody.

Son is seeing a therapist for anger and stress issues. My son has asked that I start attending as he and I have arguments frequently.

Would the GAL speak with my son's therapist, school counselors and others? Do they preform the home studies?

I would like to ask for my son to have a GAL assigned to this case so that 1 person is taking the information and can speak with him as well.

I'm not sure about your state, but in Missouri my step daught still had to have her GAL when her parents went back to court. The GAL did talk to all the parties involved and was there for the best interest of the child(didn't represent either parent) The GAL listen more as the child gets older that does not mean the child always gets what they want, just packs more influence.

Here on FA, we make every effort to provide state-specific advice and information. What happened in one state is not applicable to another, generally.

If you don't know the info for the state in question, look up the info or read and learn.

Thanks.

I don't know the answer, but here's where you can find out:
Office of Guardian Ad Litem / Court Appointed Special Advocate (GAL/CASA)

I have already been to that site. It doesn't really tell you what a GAL will do. If they are court appointed or if you can request one for your case. It does state that they are there for abused or neglected children. That isn't the issue with this case so I'm not sure if I will be able to have one assigned to my son.

Thanks.

It may not have the information you need, but there's a phone number. Call and ask. If the person who answer the phone can't answer you, ask for a supervisor.
