What is the name of your state?ohio

I went to an Urgicare center on Tuesday for a bad toothache.(I went to the urgicare instead of a dentist because I could not get an appointment that day at the dentist and I was in alot of pain.) The doctor there gave me a prescription and sent me on my way.It is now Friday and the pain has gotten worse and the infection does not seem to be clearing up so I went to the emergency room at a local hospital. The doctor that checked me looked at the meds I was on and told me that I was given the wrong meds. That what I received at the urgicare was an antiboiotic that would treat a bladder infection not a tooth and gum infection. My question is Do I have any recourse here aganist the urgicare or the doctor? My infection has gotten worse and more painful due to the doctors mistake of meds at the urgicare.
Thank you for any information

What medication were you given from the urgent care on Tuesday?
What medicaiton were you given at the ER today?
When is your appointment with your dentist and what did they say when you asked them for help and they couldn't give you an appointment on Tuesday?

There is no just cause for a lawsuit over having a toothache for 72 hours. Geez. Septra and Bactrim treat bladder infections and a variety of other infections; neither can tell your bladder from your lungs, your colon, your tooth, or your pinkie finger. They are sulfa drugs, synthetic sulfa and real sulfa; that's all.

I am just wondering if the person prescribing to you was a dentist, and if not was he treating out of his area, or his knowledge.

Can you imagine what the outrage would be if a dentist prescibed a medication for a patient, when it wasn't dental related.

Just pose this for thought, and the reality is that there must have been more than one dentist in your area, and it would be better in the future to seek the appropriate care from the appropriate providers.

The doctor at the urgicare prescriped biaxin xl and the hospital doctor prescribed clindamycin (i am allergic to penicellen) the doctor at the hospital was the one who informed me that the medicine prescribed by the urgicare doc was the wrong one and that it was used for bladder infections and not for the problem that I am experincing. When my regular dentist could not see me I called the 24 hr. nurse line that is provided with my health insurance and was told by the nurse there to go to the urgicare center. I have an appointment with my dentist on Monday. And I cant answer the question if the doctor was capable to treat my infection in my mouth because he is a doctor and not a dentist all I can say is if he couldnt why wouldnt he say that and say that he is not qualified to treat my specific problem. He seemed to be very knowledgable in the matter though.Thank you

I also forgot to mention that I was not trying to sue anyone although I do see how one might think that I did . I wanted only to see if I should point to the urgicare that I was given the wwrong kind of medicine so that in the future it doesnt happen again. I apologize for the miswording of my main statement.

Let's try this again,
What did your dentist office say to do until you are seen next Monday? Did you ask them?

That's not what I asked.
When you called them on Tuesday, when you had the toothache, and they told you you could not be seen on Tuesday, what did they say to do until you could see the dentist next Monday. Is that the earliest you could get an appointment or did you just make the appointment today?

Going to the ER for dental distress is routine and standard practice. I can't imagine anyone making such a foolish statement as "was he treating outside of his area"---and that's more than a little sexist, too. The physician could have been a "she".

Biaxin XL is used for many different infectious processes. Prescribing it wasn't necessarily wrong. Biaxin XL costs much less than other antibiotics. Without a culture and sensitivity there is no way to know if a prescribed antibiotic will work. Maybe the poster would have preferred to wait 72 hours for such a test. As it turns out, it wouldn't have made much difference if the OP had.

Regardless of what the poster's dentist said or didn't say about the Rx or the appointment, there is no basis for a medmal claim. End of story.

Clindamycin is actually indicated for uncomplicated skin structures....
