Oh Boy...bad enough so many grandparents are raising their grandbabies, but great-grandparents?

Where is Grandma in all of this? Is the mother or the father willing to sign over custody or guardianship? It may be easier for Grandma to file and just continue sharing time with great-grandma. How old is great-grandma & does she have any health problems which may be relevant in a custody case?

Grandparents on both sides not worthy haves drinking problems and the others are in and out of jail and homeless.Great-grandma is 60yr.s on limited income but has raised her this long.Mom is trying to take control of everything dad is willing to give custody to his grandmother but the mother is not willing to give her up.

Unfortunately then, the only way to remove custody from the mother is to prove her unfit. It may be that great-grandma needs to stop enabling the mother by taking care of the child all the time. Tell mother if she wants custody she needs to take care of her own child. Then if she fails to take care of the child, there'd be a case to pursue.

unfortunately for the child mother is a party girl and she wants to live it up but she does not want to give up her daughter.Great-grandma just wants what is best for the child. The mother has even gotten it where the father only has supervised visits with his daughter and only for a few hours. The things she said was not true and there are witnesses to support that but great-grandma just wants them to get their lives straight and leave the baby out of their battles.

The only things so far gone through the courts is the temp. restraining order to keep the father away from the mother of which she lied a couple of times on but so far nothing else.Does anyone think that great-grandma should pursue this in a court of law???

Go ahead and take it to court, let them do a home study etc. If mom is 17 yo she will have to prove that she can support her child, that means a lot of things beyond diapers and formula. Both she and dad, once paternity and child support are approved will be responsible for the child, the judge may order parenting classes, and grandmother not great grand mother is responsible for her 17 yo daughter, what a mess. Let it be sorted out in court.
