my 93 year old grandma is still losing all her ss check to her granddaughter who has pow and her name on the checking account. granny never sees her bank statement, checkbook, or any cash. she trusts the granddaughter and refuses to ask her anything or doesn't care. i am the grandson and i have seen the old bank statements and credit card ones too. they have taken all the money and cashed it out or paid their bills using grannies money. this has been ongoing since 1993. the house is getting run down, taxes are behind and i am getting tired of this abuse of my granny. where should i begin to stop it? contact social security, adult protective services, county attorney? or whom? they think pow gives them the right to spend her money on themselves. i say no way. i want them prosecuted before she dies and they get away with it. suggestions? help? thanks, wes

Two years ago you began posting about your grandmother. Not once, even after you were asked, did you answer the question of whether or not granny was competent. You were also advised to report this. You also researched elder abuse and financial exploitation. You also were advised to petiton for guardanship of granny, report this to the police, etc. You also know about adult protective services. Therefore, why have you NOT done anything in two years?

grandma losing money

I recently called the Area on Aging Agency in Abilene TX looking for help concerning my great aunt because the family that took her in cut her off outside contact. What about you calling them? The ombudsman was WONDERFUL...she knew what to ask me, then she contacted the Adult Protective Services. Long Story cut short, the State got her out of the abusive situation, she is 89 yrs old, but she can still run her own personal life with the RIGHT kind of help. She had NO IDEA the POA she signed giving her niece power, was going to end up this way!! Two years is a long time, but never too late to have someone look into the situation. Is your Grandma happy and are her needs met? Linda ~

taking action

texas-i have contacted my local area agency on aging and will be giving them all the info to see what can be done. my granny seems to be competant on some days, not as much others, but refuses to talk about the misuse of her money. she believes that the perpetrator is a godsend. i know that they are evil, two-faced, and out for all the money they can get. if they had pulled this on me, they would have been locked up already. this must happen a lot, it seems to be a more common thread now a days.
