We live in Neosho,Missouri. This happened 1st week in January 2001. We got a call from our Grandson's mother asking if we wanted to pick him up for the weekend to visit. We did, about 30 min. after our Grandson was in our home he needed to be changed (12 mo old). I (Grandfather) noticed he had some bruses on his left leg about the center. He was learning to walk and bruses can occur as a result of this, But these bruses looked strange. Their were 4 small dots on his leg so close together that I could not put my fingers together and put them on the dots. I asked my son who is the father to call his mother and ask what happened. All he said was what happend to his leg and our Grandson's mother got pissed off and said she was coming down to pick him up. She said she was tired of us accusing her of abusing her son. WE DID NOTHING OF THE KIND. Just wanted to know about the bruse's. As a result we called the police and asked them what they thought about the bruses and they said to call Child Protective Services. We did and they said to not let her take him under any condition. A social services worker came and looked at the bruses and said that they did look suspicious and to take him to the hospital to see if their was anything wrong. Their was nothing else wrong and the social worker and the police said it was ok for her to take him with her. The hospital said the bruses were normal child brusing. We did not think so, but just wanted to know about them. We haven't seen him as of yet. Our Grandsons mother had out phone blocked so we can not call to find out how he is at all she also had her mother block our phone also so we could not call the other Grandmother to find out how our Grandson is. We love our Grandson very much and would do anything for him if we could, But we don't even know if he is alive or dead. Broken Hearted. Please help if you can Thank You...

You definitely did the right thing!

I'm wondering where your son (the father) stands in this situation. Does he support the child and have visitation rights? If so, he needs to file a motion to show cause for denying visitation. She would also be required to give him a valid phone number.

I'm sorry to tell you that grandparents have no rights; however, if your son's paternity has been established and he has visitation, you can certainly be allowed to see the child whenever he has him and chooses to share him with you.

Good luck to you, and never regret taking the action you did.

Our son has not had a paternity test done yet. But we know that he is his son as our grandson looks just like him in his face and the pictures from when our son was born and our grandson, if you didn't know any better you would say the person in the pictures is the same. They are different.
Our son is not paying child support just yet as he has a meeting setup for 04/10/01 to discuss this. Our son has no visitation rights setup through the court as of yet. This little girl has not grown up yet and she is 20 years old. She is playing her little game and using our Grandson as a pawn.
This girl has two girls from another guy and did not ever marry him. She then had a son (our Grandson) and did not marry our son either. To top it off, we belive that she may be expecting another child from yet another guy!
She has no transportation except from her mother if her mother feels like doing anything for her. She lives on food stamps and welfare to support this children. She has not finished high school nor went back to get her GED.
We are going to contact a family lawyer in our state that says Grandparents do have some rights? Thank You.
