What is the name of your state? IL

I moved into an apartment with a girlfriend once we decided to get married. Well, things took a turn for the worse, and we decided to part ways. We broke the lease on our apartment. I was named as the main leasee (did I spell that right?), and she was listed as an occupant. We now have a debt to the apartment building of $2300. So far, she has said she will pay half. But if she goes back on that, can I take her to small claims court to get her portion? We're both adults, we were both working. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Yes, it probably would have. But when you get a bomb dropped on you like that, you're not always thinking your clearest (if you know what I mean.)

Now for a REAL answer.....
Yes, you can take her to court. After all, anyone can sue anyone else over almost anything. And yes, you have a chance of winning.... depending on how you present your claim.... and her defense.
Your position (and chances) will be much stronger if you were to get this repayment promise in writing.
