What is the name of your state? VA

DH received a notice from Plaza Associates (NY) concerning a Visa account w/Citibank approx. $900.00. Thing is, this went to his sisters address which he has not lived at for 22 years. The last Visa account he remembers was back in 1982. I’ve been monitoring and correcting his credit report for the past 5 years. This account has never shown its ugly head (not even as have ever been opened). I checked the big 3 last night, nothing. In addition, he has 7 student loans (going back 3 years) with Citibank so it really wouldn’t be that hard for them to find him! I’ve just gotten his credit rating back up from zero, zippo, nothing to a nice 725 considering what I had to work with! I don’t want this to spoil it by them obtaining a default judgment.

My question to you is, should I send a validation letter? Or would this just be opening up a can of worms? I've been going back and forth with myself on this, so I thought I would ask for your professional advice!

Thank you very much for your time and assistance in this matter.

Regards;

KAT

Edited for: The SOL in VA is 6 years, I'm sure you know this, but adding to save time.

Assuming that this debt is as old as you believe AND that they apparently aren't smart enough to even get a valid address, I would just ignore this one. Continue monitoring your credit histories and if this does pop up, it would probably be a report only (not a judgment). That would be the time to contact the CRA (Credit Reporting Agency) and dispute the report. Once they see the dates, the report would then be removed.

And if they were to get a judgment (unlikely), it can easily be vacated due to improper service and expiration.

As we say in Texas, "No sense poking a stick into a rattlesnake den... unless you want rattlesnake for dinner!"

Thank you very much! I think we'll skip the rattlesnake dinner and just wait this one out! It's killing me, because I have a feeling it's another game played by the ex....not a new one, just the trough she keeps feeding at because she's never convicted!!! Uggghh!!

Thanks again!
