FL - Hi, I have been harassed by my downstairs neighbors since they move to this apartment building. They complained about the noise I make to management several times. Then yesterday a member of management knock about a complaint, my daughter was visiting. I did not say anything because I did not want to embarrassed my daughter, but all we were doing was walking around with my grandson, he just learned to walk. I wrote a litter today and delivered it to the management company (see below). My question is what would my next step be if this continue. Thank you.

I am sending this letter as a formal complaint against my downstairs neighbor, Apt 101, and the harassment they have put me through. They have continually complained about “noise” that I am supposedly making. There have been times when these complaints have come in when I am not even home. Other times, I am not doing anything except walking around my apartment. We live in an apartment building and noises are part of apartment life. I should not have to be continually harassed about normal noises when I am paying to live here. It not only makes me uncomfortable, but I have been confronted about this in front of my guest which makes them uncomfortable as well.

Yesterday I had my daughter and her 12 month old son visiting me. It was late afternoon and we were simply talking and playing. My family time was interrupted when a representative of the apartment building came to my door to tell me that the same neighbor who has filed many ridiculous complaints about me in the past had called to complain again. This was not the middle of the night. We were not dancing or stomping. We were simply hanging out together enjoying our time. I apologized to end the encounter because I did not want my daughter to feel uncomfortable, but I am extremely angry about this! I am not a child who should be scolded for making noise, especially when we were not being loud! My guests should not feel as if they got me “in trouble” when they are just there visiting. It is true that I live alone and often there is no noise at all coming from my apartment, but if a family with young children lived here the neighbor would have to deal with the reality of apartment life on a daily basis! My family is welcome at the place where I pay to live, my HOME, whenever they want to visit. Walking around and playing does not cause excessive noise and there was no reason for the complaint, nor was there a reason for someone to come to my home and scold me in front of my daughter, making her feel as if she should not be here.

I have another daughter as well who will not visit me as often anymore because of the noise complaints that the neighbor has made against me when she came over with her kids. Is this a family friendly apartment building, or a retirement home? It is completely unfair that the harassment of this neighbor makes my family not want to come over. These complaints have been made in the middle of the day (not at night), during times when we were not making any excessive noise or doing anything out of the ordinary, and have even been made against me on a day when I was not even home, and because they make my visitors feel uncomfortable and me feel continuously on edge, they constitute harassment.

I am sending this letter as my formal complaint against these neighbors. I would like someone from the apartment management team to speak with the neighbors about the noise regulations to show that I am not breaking any rules, and to educate them on normal noises when living in a downstairs apartment. If these unwarranted complaints against me continue, I will definitely be taking further action to ensure that my rights as a resident are not infringed upon.

Thank you for your time and your action in this serious issue.

How long have you lived there ?

I have been here two years, From November 2014. The neighbors came later, around 10/2015. The neighbors before them never complained and even said they liked me up there because the neighbors before me had a family that were always moving around, they did not blame them, they just thougt I was quieter.
