So i started seeing this guy around the end of 2010 and after a few month he got me to put his car under my name. The bill of sale, insurance and registration. The insurance for that car was $70 a month and because of the risk involved if he was in an accedent he offered to pay me $90 a month. Then after a year of dating we decided to move in together may 2012. Our rent was $900 so our damage deposit was split in half so we each paid $450. As for rent we had a verbal agreement that I would pay $425 and he would pay $475 because he made more money. Now its April 2013 we broke up so i am moving out. I want to cancel the isurance but now he is threatening to sue me! He says if i cancel he will sue me for the $25 extra he was paying a month for the last year and also the $20 extra he was paying me for the insurance fote last 2 years. Can he do that? Both were verbal agreements will he be successful? Is he blackmailing me in a way? Help

Why was his car under your name? Does he have a driver's license? What does the rent matter about any of this? If you own the car, you need to have it insured. Are you considering leaving YOUR car with him?

IS there money owed on the car? Why are you going to give him YOUR car. If the title is in YOUR name, then it is your car. If he tries to sue, the courts will not happy with it due the fact that you both participated in perpetuating a fraud. Clean hands neither of you have.

No he cannot successfully sue you for money he voluntarily provided for the car insurance and rent. He is trying to scare you into continuing the insurance because he either cannot insure the car himself or cannot pay for what insurance would cost under his name.
