Help cashing my paycheck!!

What is the name of your state? OR

The IRS levied my bank account and my bank even gave them my overdraft protection amount. My account is -$1500.

I was able to negotiate with the IRS on a repayment plan and get them to release my paychecks. I am filing Chap 7 in about a week.

I have my paychecks coming right to me and not direct deposited now. I went to the bank that the payroll check is drawn on and they told me that they were going to charge me $5 to cash the check! This is a paycheck from a major US corporation!

I can't cash it at my bank because I'm afraid they will keep it because I'm overdrawn. Is my only option to pay the $5?

Do you live near a Fred Meyer store? They charge only $3 to cash payroll checks. And yes, it is legal and common for banks to charge to cash checks if you are not a customer.

Albertsons and Ace Cash Express also cash payroll at varying rates...

til you get your account from the negative, then they will charge that amount. Walmart also cashes check. Have you thought to ask your work if they can cash it for you?
