I live in SC but my kids are in MI- does anyone know how a non-custodial mom can get help with paying back child support and/or financial aid for transporting the kids? I DO work, so please don't tell me to get a job, but I currently have a warrant out for my arrest because I am four months behind-due to extenuating circumstances, and in June when I travel the 1000 miles to pick them up I will spend at least $700.00, and again in August when I take them back--I know non-custodial dads can get help, I found a couple websites, but nothing for the mom---any suggestions? Thanx

When you started to go into areers you should have gone back to court then to explain the sircumstances. Were you in the hospital? Did you get laid off? Go to www.cheaptickets.com and look at the prices for plane tickets. They are a lot less than 700.00. Unless we are talking about a lot of kids here. Try southwest.com too. If you have a warrent out then you should turn yourself in to explain your circumstances. Chances are high that they will book you and then release you on your own recognance. I am not aware of any organizations that will help you pay for your arrears or your travel. Someone else might but I don't, I can't immagine that there IS even a company that will do the child support thing. If there is a really good reason why you are late. Like you were in an accident and were in the hospital for a while and then fired because of it and you have been making valid attempts to get a job to no avail (woosh) then you might want to check and see if the courts will alieviate some of this money from your debt. If you do have to go to court it is a good idea to show that you have been making attempts to catch up on the arrears. I hope it helps.

Here are a couple of suggestions...hope they help.

1. Get a second job. I don't know your situation, but many people in financial hardships have been able to work their way out of them. You can get back on top.

2. Get the warrant taken care of. What's your plan? Show-up to get the kids and have the police take you away?

3. Economize. I travel over 1000 miles to get my kids. If you have multiple kids, rent a car, take a friend to help with the driving, pack some snacks -- you can do both ways in two days for under $300. Fly yourself one way, drive back, $300.

4. Church. Many people are willing to help other people in need. It might work better to ask for help with your rent or utilities...that could free-up some money to cover the travel costs. Work-out a repayment plan.

5. OK, here goes...Ask your ex for help. Stranger things have happened.
