What is the name of your state? IN
What would you do if you were in my shoes? I have a son who is of age but who is mentally handicapped. With my help and and the help of a local government agency who helps him find jobs and train him he is able to maintain a failry "normal" life. But because he is gullible and cannot really foresee longterm consequences there are so many people trying to take advantage of him. A few have talked him into signing legal contracts that he does not really understand. He would tell these people that he understands because he does not want to look "dumb". So far I have been able to get him out of a lot of financial and legal woes, but I really don't know how long this is going to go on. I have been advised to apply for guardianship but I don't know if that is the right thing to do. If anything would happen to me and my husband right now he would be eligible to live in a group home. And I think (knowing him) he'd rather die than do that.
