My son is 18 and got a ticket for speeding, allowing open bottle(someone in the back seat)and not a drop law(he was drinking). We live in Minnesota and I want to know if it would help to hire a lawyer or not? And what happens when he goes to court, will a lawyer make a difference or not? Should he just plead guilty and take the consequences? And what will be the consequences, I have no idea?
He applied for a public defender and was told no because he lives with me and I support him. He doesn't have a job and is finishing high school. Do I have to kick him out for help to get a public defender? I can't afford a lawyer for him. Please help advise me, court date is next Monday. Thanks for any help and be well.
