What is the name of your state? Tennessee I need help with keeping my daughter. Recently, I was ordered to let her father have visitation of her. The problem is he is violent and has been in trouble for domestic violence before and I do not think it is in her best interests to be around him. Now he has filed for custody of her and I may be faced with contempt of court on March 29th. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

However, you apparently did not prove to a judge's satisfaction that he is a danger to the child. Therefore, you MUST allow him his ordered visitation or you will likely be found in contempt. That could mean as little as a slap on the hand (this time) and as much as a change of custody.

You might get away with it if he is filing for contempt because you denied visitation once. But if we are talking a lot of times here then he might be trying to get a change of custody for it. Like stealth said. You didn't prove it well enough in court to not allow him supervision. I hate to break it to you but you would be best off giving the child to her father like ordered and if and when something happens you can then go back to court. You say he has been in trouble in the past. It is not your place to decide if the kid is best off around him just because he has had trouble in the past (not trying to be harsh here) Don't you think that you at least need to allow him the chance to be a father to his child? Obviously he cared enough about her to go and file for visitation.
