What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Washington
Friend came to me with a tenant landlord question. I went to the rcw's but cant quite find an answer to the question, or couldnt quite get through all the legal stuff.
Friend (Will call Jane) lives with former boyfriend (will call Joe) as room mate. Joe tells Jane he wants her to move out NOW. He owns the house with his parents (who live across the street). He goes and gets parents and the tell her(Jane) to leave. Not knowing she has some rights she lets the esscort her from the house. They tell her when she wants to come get her belongings to call them so one of them can be present while she does so. Now the day before this Joe had changed the locks and refused Jane a key.
Now I know Jane has some rights here but just not sure what she can and cant do when it comes to returning back to the house. She cant afford to move and doesnt really have anyplace she can go to on short notice like that.
I guess the question is can she go back to the house and remain there and tell them they have to go through the steps to evict her legally, and should she get a civil standby while she re enters the house since she has no key?
By the way, she has lived in the house for over 3 years. He has been a "former" boyfriend for over 4 years.
Thank You.What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?
