What I Meant
In my state (IN) unless a parent gets $10,000 in arrears, they don't consider it criminal, and will not process an arrest warrant.
As I stated, we didn't get this child in our custody until, she was 11 years old. Today, in fact, is her 12th birthday. She has only lived with us since December 2003. Her mother originally paid nothing, and then just this past September was ordered to pay $26 per week until the child is 18 and/or finishes college. At $26 per week, Mother-of-the-Year won't get to $10,000 in arrearage for 7+ years. If my stepdaughter decides not to go to college, she will have received ZERO in support from her Mother. If she goes to college, and her Mother finally decides to step up, she will have gone a looooooooooong time being screwed out of support money. (Note I didn't say she'd be missing out on anything - my husband and I will ALWAYS make sure she has everything she needs, and as much of what she wants as we can afford and deem reasonable).
