What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? CA
I work in a department that is an extension of the ER. One day at work I asked one of the doctors if he could give me a referral to physical Therapy for an injured shoulder which occurred during my vacation. He suggested I get an X-ray, which meant I would have to check in as a patient. Asked by one of the RNs are you working or are you a patient, while I was in a patient gown.
I had my x-ray taken next door to our dept. which takes around 10mins or less then returned to work. The following week I was asked by my supervisor about that day...was I seen all day by a provider? who saw you? did you clock in? (i thought we were entitled with a 15min break) and many other odd questions regarding my appointment. The same week it was confirmed by fellow worker that she listened in on the nurses conversation about informing my supervisor about my appt. She asked them if they really had to do that, they immediately stopped talking about it.
I did find out from my supervisor the following week that they did inform her of my appt. Would this be a Hippa violation?

It is perfectly appropriate for your supervisor to question why you were having a test done while on the clock. That's her job. It would have been better for you to do it during your lunch break.
