We bought our home (not condo) in 2002. The management company and board of directors of our HO is currently attempting to require that all homeowners become club members via a "Social Membership" thus increasing our quarterly dues 100%.
This neighborhood is nearly 30 yrs. old and club membership has always been
optional. There is absolutely no language in the "Declaration of Covenants" or "Articles of Consolidation" mentioning club membership. The management company put the issue to a "vote" at a time when many of our residents had moved back up north. We canvassed some of them and found out that a good many of our elder residents didn't agree and simply threw the ballot away. The vote "passed" 120 to 80. There are about 500 homes in the neighborhood. Our HO attorney voted No.
This fee increase will be a financial burden to us and many of our neighbors who purchased homes here because club membership was NOT required. What can we do, if anything? Thanks.
