What is the name of your state? Minnesota.

I live in a townhome in MN. I was behind in paying my dues, however, I have been sending payments, which were accepted from the HOA up until June. They stopped accepting my dues and I was told that they would not accept any dues, past, present, or future payments unless I paid attorney fees. Afterwhich, I was sent three certified letters from an attorney's office asking for payment of past dues plus attorney fees. At this point I owed one month and the following month's dues were approaching. I asked for an explanation of these fees and was told that I had to pay the total amount by a certain date. They will not allow me to pay anything unless I pay the entire amount, which keeps changing with every month. I am assessed late fees for dues that they won't accept until I have paid the previous amount, and every letter that I get from the attorney's office has a new balance.

How can I get them to stop tacking on late fees and attorney fees? I have tried to pay them four times for past and current due amounts including late fees. Now, I have been sent another letter stating that I owe even more money. Since June I have been assessed late fees for dues they won't accept and $400 in attorney fees, and the cost continues to increase. I tried to respond, but it costs me to even dispute, because the attorney's going to send another letter with a new amount on it.

At what point will they stop? At what point can they place a lien on my home? What can I do once a lien has been assessed? Will the amount of the lien change once it has been placed? I am not paying $400 in attorney's fees for being sent three certified letters. This is not a settlement amount or even a debt, because the amount they claim I owe continues to change. They have not filed any legal action against me. I don't have a judgement or lien. I owed $300 in June. When I tried to pay they returned my check. Now it's up to $1300. $930 of which I agree I owe and have tried to pay, but again and again they send back my payment with a new balance due. They have also assessed 3 months of late fees for dues that they won't accept from me, despite my attempts to pay them.
