I need to know if I have any rights!? I have a Manic Depressive personality disorder easily treated with medication. It was suggested by my General Practicioner that I go to a Maryland hospital ER for a manic episode I was having, so that I could see a specialty doctor right away( he said it was out of his league). Under the impression that I could sign myself in volunterally, I went.
I had not yet been seen by a doctor. A nurse came in to draw my blood, I asked her what it was for and she said she would check. An hour later another nurse came in yelling at me to behave myself, I found out from her that for an unknown reason, the other nurse noted on my chart that I was non-compliant. That started the problem.
Two hours later a doctor came in and listened to my chest, and left. Aprox. 2 hours from that, a social worker came in and asked if I was signing myself in voluntarally or was she dragging me away in 4-point restraints. Afraid to not comply, I agreed to go. I was still not evaluated.
After being locked in a unit, they told me I could not leave for 72 hours minimum.
I learned that 2 doctors must sign you into a psych ward. I never saw these doctors. On that floor I was not fed for 24 hours, I was treated poorly, and drugged. I found out later that if you stayed in your room, you were non-compliant, so I stopped taking the tranqualizers and acted as normal as possible.
The nurses on the floor told me to just act normal and the doctors would sign me out. I was not treated in any way except for drugs given to me without a doctors evaluation. ON the fourth day, I saw a doctor, I acted really healthy and happy about the experience and he sent me home.
THE PROBLEM:
I want to be a police officer, with this medical record I will never be allowed to be hired.
What are my rights to a law suit? Can I fix this?

I am a law school graduate. What I offer is mere information, not to be construed as forming an attorney client relationship.

Wow, I am so sorry this happened to you. You were absolutely wronged and everyone in that hospital, including your original doctor who suggested you go there, are responsible.
