Isole, from Canada,

I own a house with my boyfriend, and I want to leave because he has a 15 year old boy who has been stealing and snooping and nothing will make this kid quit after 3 years. My boyfriend refuses to agree to break up or sell/rent our house. I even offered to give him my share and just leave but he can't afford it by himself. I offered to buy his share and I cannot get any answer from him. He just thinks the problem will go away! This avoiding the issue has gone on for over 6 months. Should I go to a lawyer, financial advisor, mortgage holder or what? If I just leave, we still have the mortgage and responsibility of the house.

My response:

I imagine that in Canada, the same principle of law exists as in the United States - - that is, you'll have to sue your boyfriend for "Partition". A court will divide the house equity and require one of you to pay off the other.
