I have posted before about problems concerning taxes, LLCs, abuse and family matters.
I finally got the courage to get a divorce.
I was referred to an attorney who said there was no attorney, including him, who would take my case without a $8,000-$10,000 retainer. He could give me no advice as to where I could go for help.
I have been married 26 years.
I have no money, no checking or savings account, no income. no shared accounts with husband. We do own a home bought in 1981. I am severely hearing impaired and have no hearing aids.
My husband is self employed, incorporated and owns the building he practices in, an LLC. I know he is not doing well financially. He has checking accounts, savings accounts, credit cards....control of all the finances. He does not give me any money, even for food.
He is emotionally abusive and occasionally physically abusive towards me.....he physically abused my daughter last week.
Because of the problems involved when a divorce includes LLCs, corporations, tax problems, a wife with no knowledge of where accounts are and a husband who refuses to allow his wife access to any financial knowledge, the divorce will be messy. I realize that.
But isn't there anyplace I can get help? It has taken me several years to finally get up enough courage to overcome my fear and seek a divorce...I am frightened....and now I have been told, in effect, "Tough luck".
Is this true? Can anyone give me advice, or a name or place I can go for help? I do not want my husband to know until I talk to an attorney....he has made my life miserable enough without giving him more ammo.
I live in the Bay Area.....
Thankyou
