What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Indiana

I have motorcycle that I did some work on and never got paid. I'm trying to get a title for it. The prev. owner filed bankrup. and the bank wrote off the loan as a loss. But, the bank won't work with me to release the lein they have.

The manager at my local Bureau of Motor Veh. said I need to go to the Court House and file a mechanics lien. I went to do that and the lady at the Court House said a mechanics lien is for real-estate and does not apply to autos. She said I had to file for a lost title (which I know is wrong). I cannot find any info on Indiana.gov about auto mechanic lien. I spoke to a local lawyer and he said he would do the paperwork for me for a fee of $500 (not worth it). If he can do it, I can do it but I need to know what to file and where do I file it?
