How long can I stay as a Visitor??

I entered the USA from Canada on June 29th...but because I don't need a passport to come to the USA as a visitor, I don't know how long I am legally allowed to stay here (I am now married to a US citizen and am going to start my paperwork, but I have read that it's very important I don't let my legal status run out while I'm doing this). Does anyone know if it's 6 months or 90 days???
