What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? NY

I currently own a co-op in New York City...the mortgage is up to date but the maintance is a bit backed up...I sent them a check that they never cashed and today I recieve a letter taped to the door saying that matters have went to civil court...Today is May 15th the letter is dated for May 7 and they said you have 5 days to respond. I am going to respond and try to work out the situation but can they evict me now even though I just recieved the notice?
