I had my trustee meeting last week for a Chapter 7 bankruptcy. How long do I have to wait to find out whether the bankruptcy has been discharged? What is the process? Is there a way to find out before the official paperwork comes from the court?

60-90 days from the 341 meeting...

Most courts have some sort of automated system that you can go on to see if your case has been discharged... Inquire with your local court or the BK attorney...

The LAW allows for a 60-day period following your 341 meeting for creditors to object to the discharge of your debt to them. Once that 60 day period passes with no objections being filed, then your discharge should come soon afterward.

If you want to monitor your case, sign up for a PACER account. Signing up is free, though if you want an immediate password and login you'll have to give them a credit/debt card. Billing is only done quarterly and you're billed at 8 cents per page you access.
