Thank you so much for your help.

Nobody can say how much it will cost until its over. The initial filing fees will depend on your status (small entity will save you some up front if you are a solo inventor), how many dependent and independent claims your invention has, whether you have any multiple-dependent claims, and whether or not you have to file any petitions or the like during the prosecution process. So, without a lot more info (and without a crystal ball), nobody can really tell.

You can estimate for yourself how much stuff is going to cost by looking up the current fee schedule here: http://www.uspto.gov/web/offices/ac/qs/ope/fee2004apr01.htm

If you are just you, you will be using the "small entity" fees -- make sure you claim small entity status. You can either do that in writing, or by simply paying the small entity fee. See MPEP 509.03 for more info on claiming small entity status.

Thank you for the information. It looks like the filing fee will be $385.00 and I can go from there.

I just needed a general idea. As someone told me about $1000.00 and then someone told me between 5k-7k.

Thanks again.

$1000 may be close, when you add in allowance fees and such.

5-7K is what you would pay a law firm to do it for you.
