How to find marriage records?

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? N/A

I am trying to find out public marriage record for a recent marriage, but I don't know the city or state in which this took place. Also, I suspect it was recently done in the last 30 days but don't have an exact date. I have the names of both bride and groom, however. Where do I begin? Thanks in advance for your advice and assistance.What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

You're going to have to narrow down the area. There is no national database of such things. You would have to search court records for each individual county, so if it could have been anywhere in the whole country, you are pretty much out of luck.

Thanks for your quick reply, I do appreciate it!

At the risk of hijacking my own post, the reason I want to find out about this marriage is so I can pass the information onto my friend, in order to put forth a modification on spousal support. Obviously, this ex-spouse of my friend's is not going to volunteer this information because there would be a potential loss of funds.

The reason I believe this person is now married is because of records I have found via public search engines that presume marriage (changed last name as hyphenated, etc.), including an updated name change with a federal agency (but this agency did not require a marriage cert, just a sworn statement of the name change). Therefore, I am seeking a copy of a marriage record to provide absolute proof of this change in status.

I hope this makes sense, and please feel free to move my post to another forum if you feel it would be better served there. I appreciate any and all advice on this matter.

Well hopefully your friend can narrow it down to a few counties, to make his search easier.
