What is the name of your state? MD

I had a person who had signed a lease to move in to my apartent on the 15th of sept. She had put in a security deposit and partial first month rent. A week before moving date, she called and had changed her mind. We told her that she will be liable for 15 days of rent since she had signed the contract back on August and asked us to wait for her until the 15th of sept. We never deposited her checks and by this time she had put a hold on both checks (yes, my fault for not depositing the checks right away). Anyway, I know that she had moved to Main but other than that, and her email address, i do not know where to find her.

Question one: How do i find her?
Questioin 2: If i do find her, how can i get my 15 days of rent. How?
Question 3: My bank told me that after 6 month, i could redeposit the bounced checks .. should I wait and retry?

Thanks.

Question one: How do i find her?
Check with her former employer or landlord for a forwarding address. Or, you can send her a letter and it should be forwarded to her.
Post Office should have a forwarding address.
Search online. If she's been gone that long, she may show up in some of the Internet White Pages like anywho.com
All else fails, hire a skip tracer.

Questioin 2: If i do find her, how can i get my 15 days of rent. How?
You can take her to small claims court. After that you can get a judgement against her so you can garnish her wages.

Question 3: My bank told me that after 6 month, i could redeposit the bounced checks .. should I wait and retry?
No. The checks didn't bounce, a hold was placed on them. Six months from now is not going to activate them.

Send her a letter at the address on her check/application that she moved FROM with your address in upper LH corner and

ADDRESS SERVICES REQUESTED

directly under your address...if she has a forwarding order on file with her OLD address, they will provide it to you for a fee.

Next time don't accept checks.
Accept only money orders or cashier's checks. If you do accept checks go to the applicants bank and withdraw the money the moment they leave your sight. Do not deposit into your account.
