State is Massachusetts:

I was wondering if I NEED the docket number to look into a specific case? Or is it possible to find a case based on the petitioner/respondents names? Obviously, it would be easier if I had the docket number(s), but I don't....
thanks.

Oh, and one more. Is it possible to do such a search online? (I think I know the answer to this one, though):)

My response:

No, you don't need the Docket or Case number. Clerks have these things called computers, and can look up files by case name. All you'll need, for the most part, is the full name of one of the parties. Now if, for example, you're trying to look up a case under a common name, like Bank of America, you'll never find what you're looking for.

And no, you can't read files on-line. You'll still have to go to the courthouse for that. Maybe one day we will, but not today.

After reading this particular line of your response, and then re-reading my post, I can see where my question seems a bit ditzy:) My line of thinking when I asked was that cases would all be filed by number, and not necessarily by name. Why I thought that, I have no idea.

Thanks for making me laugh at myself. I needed it today:D
