What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Texas, my son's father was never in the picture and his name is not on my child's birth certificate. My husband does want to adopt him, but I would like to know what I would have to do ?

Adoption - even when all parties are in agreement - is rarely a DIY project. Contact a few local adoption attorneys (who are experienced in stepparent adoptions) and go from there.
