My boyfriend had a child with his wife, they divorced before the child was even born.... She gets child support from my boyfriend... There is no visitation set up because he lives here in Nebraska and she lives in Utah. She does not tell the son (who is 5) that Kevin is his father, he's talked to his son a couple of times on the phone but she has made it very clear that he has a father (her current husband) and she doesn't want kevin confusing her son.....

Is there anything that can be done? I know that a mother can ask a father to relinguish his rights--can a father ask to relinguish his?? I mean he's paying support for a child he's never seen, and the mother wont' even tell him that Kevin is his bio father.......

He can ask if her husband would be willing to adopt the boy. But pretty much w/o her consent, a TPR isn't going to happen. If he wants to enforce his rights as a father, then he should do so through the appropriate legal channels.

He's paying child support because she went to the courts and asked for it... He was moving around so much, that he didn't get the paperwork, therefore did not show up in court that day, which means he did not defend himself and it was set..... now he pays $200 a week child support to her for a child he has never seen, never touched, nothing.......

Oh I'm not trying to make excuses for him moving around---that was his biggest mistake!!!!

My main complaint isn't that he doesn't get to see the child--I guess my main complaint is, why can a mother ask the father to relinguish rights, but the father can't ask the mother to relinguish his rights--she can say no, so that she continues to get support---even though she wants him to have nothing to do with the child..........

What good would it do for him to file for visitation?? With her living in Utah and him in Nebraska--at best he'd get the summers---the child is 4 years old--I would hope that they would not take a child away from his mother for an entire summer to make him come here and spend it with someone the child doesn't even know--that would be unfair to the child..... If he lived in Utah, with near the child that would be different...

Oh, crap. The child is ONLY 4! Why shouldn't it be ok for a child to spend summer with their PARENT? And why SHOULDN'T we ask that?

And why shouldn't a child be able to get to know their parent at a mere 4 years old? WE never knew our dauhgter until she was over 2, and I have friends who didn't know their kids until they were 6 or 8!
