What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Ohio

So I recently purchased a car from a private seller. I had test drove the car and had the codes ran on the car. Nothing came up for the code reader and the car drover perfect besides the brakes which the seller had told me needed changed. So I buy this car for $3,900. I go the next day to get the title switched over when the lady at the bmv tells me that I can't get tags for the car because it has a salvage title and needs to be inspected. Wow, the guy told me it was a clean title and had plates on the car when I test drove it. Whatever, i schedule the test but as soon as I take the car on a 15 minute ride to get it closer to the inspection place, it literally stalls out and the trans blows. It will coat about 2500 to have it rebuilt and I didn't even get 20 miles out of the car. It's been about a week since I bought the car. I have contacted the seller who still says the car drove fine for him and is now ignoring me. I Have his address, name, and original ad for the car which states everything was fine with the car and that the title was clean. When I contacted him all I asked was for at least some of the money back or to trade back. Is there any type of legal actions I can take to make this right? I'm a single mother who needs a way around and I just don't have the money to get a new trans put in. For almost 4 grand I feel the car should have ran me for more than 20 miles . Please help

It was your duty to have it inspected by a mechanic before you bought the car. I am not sure why you would trust someone just telling you everything is fine with the car.

I would take all your documents and pay an attorney for 1 hour of their time to do a consultation. I can't see the documents, but you may have something surrounding the title. I doubt it, but i rather pay to know if i have something or not.
