Hello. I am in the state of Indiana. I have been in contact with a woman who wants to give her baby up for adoption to us. I am very unsure of what HAS to be done in this state as far as home studies, paperwork to be filed as well as what kind of fees should be expected. Do I have to pay any of her expenses if she is on medicaid? What kind of lawyer fees should I expect? We are going to meet with her tomorrow so any help I can get tonight would be awesome!

Is the putative father on board with it?

You will want an attorney to help with this. Costs? Speak to the attorney. This is NOT a diy project.

As far as I know the father is not in the picture. We plan on getting ALL of the details tomorrow, I just would like to know what I am getting myself into as far as legal stuff. I am also wondering if guardianship would be better at first until we get everything together for the adoption.

Have you had a consult with an Attorney that SPECIALIZES in Adoption or even with a Agency??? Are you aware that this is not a lark and quite serious for the child????????????

No need to be jerks. I came on here for advice, not to be poked at. I will be contacting an attorney. Until then I was hoping someone could get some idea of what to expect. And to the jerk that said the father was in the picture when the baby was made-duh. As far as I'm concerned he was just a sperm donor, as he left the mother when he found out she was pregnant. If you cannot stand beside someone when YOU impregnate them, you should not have a right to call yourself a father. Get off your high horses people. And thanks for nothing, no one told me anything that I didn't already know-I need to contact an attorney.

Oh my gosh.

I am, honestly, horrified by this response.

This child deserves much better :(

Prosperina, that comment was not directed at you. Read the other replies, then you will see what I mean.

Doesn't matter - you are asking people to give up THEIR time to answer questions for free, and then you get rude on them. Why shouuld anyone want to help?

The fact that you believe the father has no input into the fate of his child, shows that you do not know enough to even consider this action without FIRST talking to a lawyer.

If you don't get dad on board, you risk having the whole thing overturned down the road - maybe YEARS down the road. Which is a terrible thing to happen to a child. You need to do this right.
