What is the name of your state? Texas

I have read the Fair Debt Collections Act and it is my understanding that the debt collectors cannot discuss my debt with anyone but me and my spouse, if I had one. Recently a debt collector has been calling, today multiple times. They have discussed my debt with my parents and with my younger sibling who I am currently staying with.

The way I understand the collections act they cannot do this. Nor can they call multiple times, this was told to me by someone from the agency themselves. Can I at this point write a letter so that they have to stop calling me? Also is this illegal as I believe it is?

Thank you in advance for your advice.

I had a collection agency calling my inlaws a few years ago---we assumed they were leaving messages at their house, b/c they'd just looked up phone numbers and gone by last names?? not sure...
But, when I reported them to the BBB, for harrassing me after I asked them not to call, they denied ever have called anyone but me.
To my knowledge, they can not discuss anything with your friends or family..I think they can call and see where they might locate you. But, I dont think they can discuss anything with anyone.
