I have been told by my girlfriends ex that he hired a PI to follow us. He alledges that the PI has a video of us in a hotel room in which he got by slipping a camera under the door. He is trying to use this to blackmail us. I know that it is illegal to do this. What can I do about this? I really want to just keep this from coming out in public. If he does indeed reveal this publiclly what are my options?

I realize that, the point was to show that this guy is probably a crank, and even if he really did have a fiber optic camera to shoot this, he could pawn it for more than he would ever get for a sex tape like this.

Could he hire a lawyeror PI to act as a liason with the police if he needed to?

I shouldn't be light hearted, this could really get ugly.

He claims the PI had a fiber optic camera like was said. I do know for fact that there was a PI involved beacuse I caught him one day but before I could get the license plate he got away. Then that night ex called and laughed about us "almost" catching the PI. Its not the money he is after its to try and continue to control her or imbarress her infront her famly friends etc. If he does this I am sure I could take some sort of recourse against him either civil, criminal or both. I am just not sure.

And it was a regular hotel door. It opened to a hall so it didnt need to be sealed.

This guy is at least harrassing you. Thats a crime

If any of the things you are he is claiming he is doing are actually being done by him or a PI - then these are serious felonies.

I'm not sure what he has on you and ex-girlfriend, but embarrasment is not as bad as what could happen.

Like you or GF being physically harmed.

Or perhaps worse, there being some kind of forced confrontation which results in acts of violence by you against this guy that while being self defense get twisted and make you look like the aggressor, and result in severe charges against you.

You really need to call the police - just to an outside ear, it sounds like this guy is not playing around.
