What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? TX

My ex owes over $50,000 in back child support. I started receiving weekly checks for back support several years after our younger child turned 18. My ex mother-in-law has just passed away and her estate will be going into probate. Is inheritance protected? Is there anything I should do to try to collect the back support? Any advice would be appreciated.

It depends on whether he is named to inherit anything. When my dad died, all his estate went to my mom. So you will first want to check the probate office of the correct county once the will is filed and see what it says and if there will be anything to claim.

inheritance again

His step dad passed away 3 years ago. Now that his mother is gone, they have left a sizable inheritance to be split equally between 6 kids (his, hers, theirs). I've read the will. Most of the inheritance is in stocks which his sister said will be sold, so he will be inheriting cash, not sure how much. I would not want to take anything away from his siblings but any money he walks away with will go up his arm and everyone knows that. We have two children, one is a college student and the other has one child, that money could be put to good use rather than spent on drugs on his way back to prison.

Get an attorney to file to attach his inheritance for the back support. There is enough money involved that the attorney is worth it.
