What is the name of your state? CA

Hello Everyone,

My stepson lives in Nevada. We live in California. His mother took him out of state years ago without written permission as stated in the court order. We have covered him through my employer. We have Kaiser. There is no Kaiser in Nevada. Stepson is 17 and is now wanting coverage in Nevada because he would like to seek treatment of Pigeon Chest (Drs here told us condition was cosmetic - no surgery would be needed). They did suggest counselling because of the outward appearance of his ribcage.

Stepson and mother want coverage in Nevada. Our response is then get a job mom. Although there is no court order for support or insurance - we provide both.

My question is this: Stepson visits the doctor in Nevada and months later we get a phone call from a collection agency asking for payment. Kaiser has taken care of the main portion of the bill but the balance is billed to us. Here is the kicker - mother and son give their address but our phone number for the billing. We don't have the opportunity to pay the bill in a timely manner (it is her way of sticking it to us). We hear from a collection agency months later and if we don't pay they threaten post a collection account on his otherwise great credit. Is it appropriate for this to be happening - the bills put in my husband's name without him even having knowledge of the visit until much later? Do we have any recourse? Are we legally responsible for these bills (remember there is no order for support or insurance)? Can we tell the medical group that we didn't authorize this and fight the bills withou it negatively affecting my husband's credit?

Lots of questions, I know, thank you in advance for the answers.

Which parent has the birthday that comes earlier in the year? That is normally the parent responsible for providing insurance.

As far as the bill goes, pay it and sue mom in small claims court. That will teach her to play games.
