What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? MN
I have liability insurance, as required in my state. The way I understand the law, if I drive another vehicle, as long as I have the owner's permission, then my insurance will follow me, and I will be covered. My question then, is about a second vehicle. I have a truck that I use a couple times a year, and have driven it less than 100 miles total in 3 years. Do I need to carry insurance on this vehicle also, or will my liability insurance "follow me," and I'd be covered in case of a problem?

You have to carry insurance on any car that you own. If you occasionally use someone else's car, their insurance will cover you (usually), but if you REGULARLY use someone else's car, they will usually have to list you as a driver (and pay for any associated risk increase) in order for you to be covered. Insurance follows the CAR, not the driver, so the car must be insured in order for you to drive it, and it's the owner's legal responsibility to maintain the insurance.
