What is the name of your state?State of Florida.
Dad is in advanced stages of lung cancer, which has spread to his brain resulting in demensia-like sysmptoms. He does have moment of 'clarity'. He is in a nursing home facility where he is getting 24 X 7 care. Dad is an alcoholic and recent entries in his medical records state that he is dilusional and phycotic at times. My brother and I both live in Florida and have DPOA and are his Healthcare Surrogates.
Recently, a non-family memeber (one of his "barfly" buddies) has started visiting dad at the nursing home and advising him to sign himself out. We've asked this person on a couple of occassionals not to interfere with family matters to no avail. This person actually snuck into the nursing home by slipping in a back door and avaioding the receptionist and visitor sign in. He has told my father that his housekeepr can care for my dad. We caught him planning to take my father on a trip to the Florida Keys this weekend.
My father insists that he can go with this "friend" at any time. It's stressful enough to watch dad deteriorate without worrying that his friend is going to take him to a bar. Dad is on medication for seizures, brain swelling and acute pain.
Guardianship seems to extreme plus there is no certainty that the courts would grant this. Should we try to get a restraining order?
Yes...I know, I should be consulting an attorney.
