What is the name of your state? MA

Someone accused a friend of being a pedophile in a large egroup, and attached a faked Massachusetts government document.

Can the poster be sued? What grounds and where to start?

Thanks.

ps. Friend is also looking for a lawyer. Does he need an MA lawyer? Can anyone do it from another state?

Ok. If we can trace the IP and zero in on the identity and location of the poster, and my friend's reputation is obviously damaged...can the poster be sued?

On what grounds?
Can a lawyer from another state handle his case?

Does your friend have $5,000 and about a week? That's what it's going to take for an attorney to sit down with him and discover he has no case.

Sorry for dragging this issue. I already sent your message to my friend - so far, no word from him yet.

However, is it THAT easy to forge/fake a government document? It only took the poster a screenshot and a simple photoshop command to "use" the government doc and spread it anywhere he wants. He used it for illegal purposes - and he won't be punished at all?

Is there any way that the state gov would take notice of this and do something? Or at least, a gov't action committee on internet harassment and/or illegal use of state document?

thank you for your responses belize.

How should I know? YOu haven't provided anything in this post or of proof to show that what this 'document' was, is punishable by law?
All you've done here is tell this forum that there is a bad (opinion) man saying bad things about a friend of yours.

Do you NOW see why i've responded the way I did? You have provided absolutely no facts for a legitimate answer to be given.

And since this really isn't your issue, until your 'FRIEND' comes here with facts there's really nothing more to do or say.
