I'm inquiring about who is responsible for an uninsured package (laptop) that was reported as delivered by the USPS to the doorstep of the buyer. The buyer (my wife) actually did not receive the package, so she opened an inspection of an unusual occurrence with the USPS inspector’s office and she is currently awaiting their report. I need to know who is responsible for the cost of the item? Is it the shipper or the buyer? To make a long story short the USPS story keeps changing but they are sticking to the end result of the package was delivered to my door. The USPS keeps stating the package was delivered and that maybe someone stole the package from my doorstep. It seems I’m in a dilemma of proving to the shipper that the package was not actually received by my wife. Resulting in the buyer(myself) paying for property I never actually received. Who is responsible? If the buyer is responsible for proving the item was not received what would be the best course of action to provide this proof?
