Hi,

I'm hoping if you can tell me if it's perfectly legal to setup an Internet Service, based in California, which strictly separates users by ethnicity? For instance, to chat or email one another?
That is to say that a user of one race would be unable to enter a chat room setup for a user of another race.

Of course, this will not prevent users from flat out lying about their ethnicity.

Thank you.

I am a law school graduate. WHat I offer is mere information, not to be construed as forming an attorney client relationship.

The more important question is why? I think the results would set equal rights and unity back.

reasoning

for example if a chatroom is running and all participants are discussing issues petaining to their ethnicity private from other ethnicities or even sex. Now of course, as said earlier, the site can't enforce that people don't misrepresent themselves. But I do believe some users will find that valuable as most people aren't going to misrepresent themselves upon user registration.

This is only a feature/preference of the site services. Users can choose whether or not they wish to partake in these types of forums.

So, I understand your statement about unity and I'm just thinking that there may be a need to extend 'private/sensitive' conversations onto the internet.

It's not like people don't do this already in public. So, can you tell me whether or not this is legal?

This is already being done. For example, chat for Jews, Christians, Buddhists, etc. The idea, I suppose, is that many people want to meet people similiar to themselves. If people voluntarily want to use this service, it seems OK.

I myself am Jewish and, being single, have visited internet sites designed for Jews. Nothing wrong with that, and I'm glad they're there.
