What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? NC

Hello,
A friend of mine who is going through child custody issues recommended this site to me, and I'm glad she did. I don't know where to begin...

I had custody of my sister's friend's 4th child from the time she was 3mos until she was 3yrs. CPS took the other 4 out of the home (children #s 1, 2, 3, and 5), and placed them with me for a brief period. Children #s 1, 2, and 3 went to another foster home, and I kept #5 until mom went to court. She regained custody of all, so I thought this would be the best time to give #4 back.

4 years later, they are all in foster care again, including #4. We moved to a different state, but as soon as I found out, I went to the court hearing to say I wanted to help take care of #4. Mom and CPS are all in agreement.

OVER A YEAR LATER, I still do not have #4 in my home. My husband and I completed our foster care licensing for our state, and #4 comes to visit. Now #3 is in the picture because she didn't have a pre-adoptive home. Again, everyone is fine with #3 and #4 living with me and being adopted by my husband and I. They both visit, and we are all a happy family.

Both parents have had their rights terminated, and they are now on the path to adoption, which the court in their state has set for 10/31.

My issue is, where do I turn now? I have been trying to ask the question to the people that are "in charge" of the case, but it's been a week, and I've received no answer. I know there are filings and fees associated with adoption, but I have no clue of what I need to do next. I'm ready to change my foster care agency, but I'm afraid I'll be starting from scratch...

What should I do?

I honestly would speak with an attorney or two. Probably one in the state with jurisdiction. Adoption really is not a DIY project.

Good luck.
